<abstract>Cecil Purser was a physician at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney for over forty years (1912-1953). He also worked in private practice in Sydney from 1893. With a major interest in the prevention and treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, Purser joined the Tuberculosis Advisory Board from 1912 and the Board of Health from 1914. He was also heavily involved with the University of Sydney holding own many senior positions from 1909 to 1925. Some of Purser's many other contributions to medicine in New South Wales included stints as Director (chairman from 1915) of Carrington Centennial Hospital for Convalescents in Camden; foundation member of the Queen Victoria Homes for Consumptives; honorary consultant to the Home for Consumptives in Waterfall; medical examiner at R.T. Hall Sanatorium in Hazelbrook; council-member of the War Memorial Hospital in Waverley; and life governor of the Women's Hospital in Crown Street. Cecil Purser was also a foundation Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians 1938; a chairman of various drug companies and an honorary major of the Australian Army Medical Corps Reserve from 1916.</abstract>
