He was also President of the board of directors at the Hospital (1938-1959) and his fellow directors established an annual visiting professorship in his name to honour his twentieth year as president. Paul wrote "The Influence of Sunlight in the Production of Cancer of the Skin" in 1918 and "Cutaneous Neoplasms" in 1933; these books warned against 'reckless exposure to sunlight'. Paul initially spent some years in his father's ship-chandler business before starting his medical studies. After graduating he worked for a few months at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital then spent most of 1911-1912 studying dermatology and medicine in Vienna and London.
