This was one of the university's youngest ever professorial appointments. Nugent is currently an ARC Federation Fellow at the School of Physics and the only Australian to twice receive an RD 100 award (R&D Magazine's award for the 100 most technologically significant products and advancements). Nugent is a world leader in research into x-ray optics, near-field microscopy, biophysical imaging and developed Quantitative Phase Imaging technology which changed the way we see and measure images using light.
