Jesse Gregson was General Superintendent of the Australian Agricultural Company from 1875 to1905. He arrived in Australia in 1856, where he became involved in the pastoral industry in New South Wales and Queensland. The following year he joined the Australian Agricultural Company and was concurrently chairman of the Association of Northern Collieries. Upon retiring he resided at Mt Wilson in the Blue Mountains (NSW), where he collected many botanical specimens for the Royal Botanic Gardens. He had a particular interest in eucalypts. His interest in botany led him to become friends with J.H. Maiden, and the two often conducted collecting excursions together. Gregson's specimens are preserved in the National Herbarium of New South Wales. Gregson was a member of the royal commission which prepared the case for the Coal Mines Regulation Act 1896.
