Harry Treloar was one of Australia's top meteorologists. He worked for the Meteorological Branch, and its successor the Commonwealth Bureau of Meteorology, for over forty years starting out as a clerk and rising to Assistant Director then Superintending Meteorologist in charge of the Analysis and Facilities Section of Central Office at the Bureau's Melbourne headquarters. The Bureau described him as one of their most distinguished officers. Treloar was also a highly committed member, office bearer and Executive Councillor of the Professional Officers' Association.
