<abstract>George Perrin accepted the position of Conservator of Forests in Tasmania in 1885 and in 1888 was appointed to the new post of Conservator of Forests in Victoria. He had worked as a ranger in charge of the Mt Burr Forest Reserve in South Australia from 1880 before moving to Tasmania.</abstract>
