He remained there for 42 years, retiring in 1960 as Director of the Museum's successor, the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences. Much of his research, with Museum colleagues Henry Smith and Arthur Penfold, was into the economic potential of Australia's natural resources, particularly plants and their essential oils. Morrison published nearly 50 papers, many in association with Penfold.
