He was also an avid collector of insects and made several collection field trips to Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. His collection is held by the National Museum of Victoria. Wilson was President of the Field Naturalists Club of Victoria 1929 - 1930, and President of the Entomological Society of Victoria for three terms.
