<abstract>Julian Ashton was a journalist with <span style="font-style:italic">The Sun</span> (Sydney) and <span style="font-style:italic">The Argus</span>. He wrote popular entomological articles mainly on cicadas and ants. He was also an avid collector of Cicadidae, travelling through New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia for specimens. His work was on permanent exhibition in the Art Gallery of New South Wales.</abstract>
