Earlier he was Chief Geologist for the Zinc Corporation Ltd, Broken Hill 1946-1952. He developed a number of novel theories on the formation and evolution of ore-bodies. Since 1993 the Australian Academy of Science has awarded the Haddon Forrester King Medal to recognise "original and sustained contributions to earth and related sciences of particular relevance to the discovery, evaluation and exploitation of mineral deposits, including the hydrocarbons".
