<abstract>Erich Heymann was a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne from 1936 and an associate professor from 1945. Through first class lectures and research, he enhanced the department's standing in the scientific community. Prior to this Heymann had worked in London and in his hometown of Frankfurt. He was an expert in colloid and surface chemistry and published widely in the area. Heymann was a Fellow of the Australian Chemical Institute.</abstract>
