He was employed by the Institute of Science and Industry, CSIR and Australian Paper Manufacturers Ltd. As Superintendent of the Australian Newsprint Mills Pty Ltd from 1938, he was responsible for construction and commissioning of the Boyer Newsprint Mill, New Norfolk, Tasmania, the first pulp and paper mill in the world to utilise hardwood to produce newsprint.
