<abstract>Henry Atkinson, a clergyman, was active in the classification and collection of Tasmanian orchids particularly from the 1920s. He eventually recorded 24 previously unknown species.</abstract>
<p>Born Gordon, Tasmania, 17 March 1874. Died Launceston, Tasmania, 16 June 1960. Educated University of Tasmania (BA 1899). Various church positions 1901-16, rector, Holy Trinity Church, Hobart 1916-24, archdeacon of Darwin and Launceston with responsibility for all Tasmania north of Conara, the west coast and Flinders and King islands 1928-49. A childhood interest in orchids was revived in the 1920s and he began to collect and classify the Tasmanian varieties, eventually recording 24 previously unknown species. <span style="font-style:italic">Caladenia atkinsonii</span> Rod. was named after him.</p>
