He and his wife Maisie were noted for their work in the Alpine regions of New South Wales and Victoria. Dennis and Maisie Carr named many eucalypts, particularly bloodwoods (Corymbia species), including the Corymbia dampieri in 1987. Their species concept was very fine and many of their species have subsequently been incorporated into others. Nonetheless, many have withstood scrutiny and are still accepted.
