<abstract>William Cane was one of the small band of people who founded the Society for Growing Australian Plants.</abstract>
<p>Born Carlton, Victoria, 1911. Died 18 January 1987. Work on a local farm ca 1925-28; rabbit trapping, Little Plain near Valencia Creek; beekeeper; nursery, Maffra 1947-87, developing techniques for striking cuttings and propagating Australian natives by leaf culture; found a new species of <span style="font-style:italic">Banksia</span>, named <span style="font-style:italic">Banksia canei</span>. Medallion, Victorian Beekeepers' Association; winner of many major awards for his honey.</p>
