<abstract>Viliam Buchwald became Professor of Applied Mathematics, University of New South Wales in 1968 and Dean of the Faculty of Science in 1980. He has published in the fields of applied mathematics and oceanography.</abstract>
<p>Born Bratislava, 9 September 1929. Educated Universities of Manchester (BSc) and London (MSc, PhD). Mathematics Master, Llangollen Grammar School, Wales 1951-53, Senior Mathematics Master, Preston Manor Grammar School, Wembley 1953-56, Lecturer, Manchester College of Science and Technology 1956-61, Lecturer and Reader, University of Sydney 1961-68, Professor of Applied Mathematics, University of New South Wales 1968-88, Dean, Faculty of Science 1980-88, Emeritus Professor 1989-.</p>
