George Story, who was born in London, studied medicine at Aberdeen University and settled in Swansea, Tasmania in 1828. He was district surgeon, a quaker, a keen botanist and was Secretary of the Royal Society of Tasmania 1844-1846. "He collected ancestral human remains to display in a small private museum at Kelvedon [Tasmania] and nine skulls of the First People originally displayed in his museum were eventually purchased from his heirs for the University of Melbourne. He apprears to have also given skulls to his friend James Bonwick and to other people." (Pybus 2024 page 292).
