<biogHist>
<abstract>Samuel McLaren taught mathematics at many of England's leading Universities and was Chair of Mathematics at University College from 1913. His main area of interest was mathematical physics and he wrote widely on the subject. McLaren joined the Royal Engineers when World War I broke out and was sent to France. He was injured during a bomb clearing mission and died of his injuries shortly afterwards.</abstract>
