<abstract>James Pound DSc, was a lecturer in Chemistry and Metallurgy, and headed the Department of Chemistry at the Ballarat School of Mines. He was also a prolific writer. Before Ballarat, he was a metallurgist at Broken Hill, New South Wales, in Tasmania, and in New Zealand, and was a lecturer in Chemistry and Metallurgy at Zeehan School of Mines.</abstract>
