Alfred Lendon was a leading physician in South Australia. On arriving in Adelaide he was appointed Government Medical Officer and in 1884 went to Bordertown where there was an outbreak of smallpox. Between 1891 and 1894 he was Honorary Physician at the Adelaide Hospital. This was followed by many years' service at the Adelaide Children's Hospital, of which he had been a board member since 1885, and the Queen's Home. Lendon lectured in forensic medicine and obstetrics at the University of Adelaide from 1887 for over 40 years. He served two terms as President of the South Australian Branch of the British Medical Association. In 1898 he became President of the President South Australian District Trained Nurses Association. Lendon's research interests included hydatid disease.
