Keith Hindwood was Honorary Ornithologist (later Research Associate) with the Australian Museum for over 40years from 1930 and widely recognised as an authority of Australian birds. His particular interest was in the rock warbler. He published prolifically on natural history topics, particularly birds, pioneer naturalists and early colonial artists. Hindwood wrote a column, 'Nature Notes and Studies', in the <span style="font-style:italic">Land</span> newspaper 1931 - 1932, under the pseudonym 'Oriole', while his photographs appeared in the <span style="font-style:italic">Sydney mail</span> between 1928 and 1937. In his lifetime he contributed more material to <span style="font-style:italic">The Emu</span> than anyone else. Hindwood served as President of the Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales and the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union.
