She was dismissed from that position in 1887 after a bitter dispute and public inquiry. After 1887 she lectured and continued to write on nursing and hygiene. She was a feminist and member of the Dawn Club. Osburn, Lucy (1836 - 1891)

Frances Holden, Sister Probationer, was dismissed by Lucy Osburn before completing her training at Sydney Hospital. Five years later Holden became Lady Superintendent of the Childrens Hospital in Sydney.
