Angas Johnson studies medicine at the University of Adelaide but graduated from the University of Melbourne on 1879. He spent the next three years studying at the Universities of Göttingen and Berlin in Germany, and at several London hospitals. On returning to Adelaide in1902 he was appointed to the Adelaide Hospital where he remained for over 20 years. Johnson was involved in a number of public health organisations, including: the Pure Foods and Drugs, Consumption, and Fever Hospital boards; the Influenza Committee; and the medico-legal panel of the Crown Law Department. He was a member of the Adelaide City Council between 1902 and 1924, when, on being appointed Health Officer to the Council, he was required to resign from his other positions. On several issues he voiced opinions at variance with those of his colleagues, notably on the use of <span style="font-style:italic">Pasteurella</span> bacteria to control rabbits and the efficacy of immunisation against diphtheria. Johnson was a keen naturalists, serving as President of the Field Naturalists' Section of the Royal Society of South Australia.
