Harvey Johnston was Professor of Biology, University of Queensland 1919-1922 and Controller of the Commonwealth Prickly Pear Laboratories 1920-1923. He was Professor of Zoology, University of Adelaide from 1922 and travelled to Antarctica with Douglas Mawson 1929-1931.
<p>T. Harvey Johnston was a biologist and parasitologist whose expertise in helminths was recognised world-wide, and who was integral to early efforts to control prickly pear. He was the first Lecturer in biology appointed to the University of Queensland and the first Professor of Zoology at University of Adelaide, 1922 - 1951, while concurrently Professor of Botany, 1928 - 1934. Between 1929 and 1931 he was Chief Zoologist of the British, Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition under Douglas Mawson. He made numerous collecting trips into outback South Australia with John Cleland 1929 - 1937. The Australian Helminth Collection assembled by Johnston was bequeathed to South Australian Museum.</p>
