<abstract>Francis Simpkinson de Wesselow arrived in September 1844 at Hobart Town to work under J. H. Kay at the Rossbank Observatory. He left Hobart in 1849. He was an accomplished artist, some of his work now being in the Royal Society of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Galery.</abstract>
