He also lectured at the University of Sydney from 1902 to 1934 and was honorary palaeontologist to the Australian Museum. William Dun had a sizable publication record and was a long-term councillor and one-time president of the Linnean Society of New south Wales. It was widely acknowledged that Dun was an authority on the Australian fossil fauna, particularly on the identify and stratigraphic range of fossils.
