Hubert Clark was a marine zoologist whose research focused on echinoderms: sea stars, brittle stars, sea lilies and sea cucumbers. He made study and collecting trips widely through the American region, especially on the Pacific coasts. From 1910 he was particularly interested in the Australian echinoderm fauna. He made expeditions to Australia in 1913, 1929 and 1932. Results of these studies were published in a number of papers, and the monographs <span style="font-style:italic"> Echinoderms from Australia: an account of collections made in 1929 and 1932</span> (1938) and <span style="font-style:italic"> The echinoderm fauna of Australia</span> (1946). In the latter he recorded all known species (including fossils) and discussed the origins and composition of the fauna in relation to adjacent areas. Clark spent most of his career at the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University, being Associate Professor of Zoology from 1927 to 1935, and retiring as Curator of Marine Invertebrates in 1946 after 20 years in the role. In 1947 he was awarded the Clark Medal by the Royal Society of New South Wales for his work on Australian echinoderms.
