He oversaw the construction of many public works including a municipal electricity generator which was Australia's first hydro-electric system, a tramcar service, the East Launceston sewerage system, the Alexandra Suspension Bridge and Carr Villa cemetery. David also consulted the Tasmanian Agricultural & Pastoral Society on the construction of Elphin Showground and the Tasmanian Turf Club on alterations to Mowbray Racecourse and was the Northern Tasmanian Fisheries Association's honorary consulting engineer.
