Born Darlington, Sydney, 26 April 1874. Died Waverley, 3 February 1951. Educated Sydney Technical College. Laboratory assistant, Sydney Technical College 1900-03, teaching staff 1903-09, assistant teacher and demonstrator, department of chemistry and metallurgy 1909-12, head teacher of organic chemistry 1912-38; consulting chemist 1939-40; director, Nightingale Supply Company Ltd from 1940; staff member, director-general of manpower in the scientific section during World War II; part-time liaison officer, chemical profession, Commonwealth Employment Service from 1946. Founder and first applicant for membership, (Royal) Australian Chemical Institute 1917 and president, New South Wales branch 1928-29; president, Sydney section, Society of Chemical Industry 1920-22; president, Royal Society of New South Wales 1933-34.
