<abstract>Ettore Checchi was chief engineering officer, Victorian State Rivers and Water Supply Commission 1906-1926. His technical data on harnessing the River Murray formed the basis of the River Murray agreement of 1925 between the three neighbouring States and the Commonwealth.</abstract>
<p>Educated Florence (civil engineering). Arrived Melbourne 1876. Draftsman, Department of Lands and Survey 1876-82; engineering draughtsman, Public Works Department 1882-87, assistant engineer 1887-88; supervisor of water-trusts and minor works, Department of Water Supply 1889, in charge of river-gaugings and measurements of water 1889-1906; State Rivers and Water Supply Commission 1906-26.</p>
