<abstract>Len Weickhardt joined ICI as a Research and Production Chemist in 1935 and was Research Director of Imperial Chemical Industry of Australia and New Zealand (ICIANZ) 1955-1970. He was Chancellor of the University of Melbourne 1972-1978 and active in many organisations. In 2007 the Royal Australian Chemical Institute inaugurated the Weickhardt Medal for Distinguished Contribution to Economic Advancement to recognise significant contribution to the economic advancement of the Australian economy through work in the chemistry area.</abstract>
