<abstract>Thomas Iredale was Lecturer in Chemistry, University of Sydney 1927-1944, Senior Lecturer 1944-1947, and Reader 1947-1962.</abstract>
<p>The University of Sydney Archives biographical note for Iredale, Thomas William (ID 20 - old control number P 29): "Iredale, born in Castle Hill NSW, studied at Sydney Church of England Grammar School, the University of Sydney from which he graduated in 1919, and University of London from which he graduated in 1925. The University of Sydney appointed Iredale to the position of lecturer and demonstrator in the Department of Chemistry in 1927. Iredale retired in 1962. His research was in the field of photochemistry. During World War II, he analysed bauxite for the NSW Government and investigated refrigerated brines for the Australian Government Directorate of Supply. Diaries received by the University according to the terms of Iredale's last will and testament. Refer to correspondence of former archivist G Fisher dated May 1972 (now in SU Archives G3/211 file 10/299)." [as at 2023-02-10]</p>
<p>Additional career information from "Physics in Australia to 1945": Education University of Sydney (B.Sc. 1919) and University College London (D.Sc. 1925). 1851 Exhibition scholar 1921-24. Lecturer in chemistry, University of Durham 1925-27. Lecturer in chemistry, University of Sydney 1927-44; senior lecturer 1944-47; reader 1947-62.</p>
