Thomas Healy was appointed Professor of Physical Chemistry, University of Melbourne in 1977. He is noted for his contribution in the fields of surface and colloid chemistry. In his work on adsorption of metal ions and the nature of adsorbed water, he has considerably extended understanding of the electrical double layer at interfaces, and wettability and flotation, and increased understanding of industrial processes involving solid suspensions.
