<abstract>William Francis was a member of the botanical staff at the Queensland Herbarium for 34 years from 1920 to 1954. He was Queensland Government Botanist from 1950, succeeding C.T. White, until his retirement in 1954. Francis is known for his 1929 work <span style="font-style:italic">Australian Rainforest Trees</span> which he wrote and illustrated with his own photographs.</abstract>
