Between 1946 and 1968 he was Professor of Preventive Medicine and Director of the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at the University of Sydney. During WWII he served in with the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps in significant roles in the Middle East, New Guinea, and at Land Headquarters in Melbourne. While in New Guinea he was instrumental in the anti-malaria campaign for Australian forces in the South Pacific. After the war he was on the reserve list until 1964. Ford Was actively involved in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, being Vice-President 1970-1972, a member of several committees, and Curator of its library 1958-1986.
