<abstract>Cornelius Casey, the grandfather of R. G. Casey was Assistant Colonial Surgeon in Van Diemen's Land 1833-1843. He then held a number of official posts, resigning from time to time, usually as a result of disagreements, to enter private practice.</abstract>
<p>Born Liverpool, England, 1810. Died Melbourne, 2 August 1896. Arrived Van Diemen's Land 1833 as surgeon in an immigrant ship; assistant colonial surgeon 1833-43; Hobart General Hospital 1843-?; Medical Court of Examiners from 1844; private practice until 1848; medical officer to the gaol, watch-house and police at Launceston 1848-?; private practice in Tasmania until 1863; Victoria 1863-96.</p>

Letter and account books of C. G. Casey, 1848-1884. Ninety-five volumes of press cuttings relating to Lord Casey, covering the period 1924-1978. Also 4 cm. of loose cuttings. Manuscript copy of Lord Casey's 1954 work "Friends and neighbours". Material and realia relating to Lord Casey's Order of the Garter as well as other titles and honours.</abstract>
