Fellow, Royal Society 1963; Joliot-Curie medal, World Peace Council 1966; Lenin Peace Prize 1972; Bulgaria's Order of Cyril and Methodius 1973; Rutherford Memorial lecturer, Royal Society 1979. Founding member, Australian Association of Scientific Workers 1939; involved in the founding of the Pugwash conferences; founder, British Society for Social Responsibility in Science 1969; President, World Federation of Scientific Workers 1971-80.
