On his return to France he kept up his correspondence with acquaintances in New South Wales and in 1826 was asked by the French government to report on the suitability of western New Holland as a French penal colony.

Born Rouen, France, 29 July 1802. Disappeared at sea 1830. Naval volunteer 1818; visited Antilles and Cayenne 1818; voyage to the West Indies and South America 1819; voyage to the South Seas 1822-25; worked with Governor Brisbane in his observatory 1824; prepared a report for the French government on the suitability of western New Holland as a French penal colony 1826; explored Asian waters 1827; expedition to Algiers 1830; disappeared during an expedition to the Arctic 1833.
