<abstract>Samuel White managed his father's property at Tatiara, South Australia from the 1850s and began collecting ornithological specimens. He led a number of expeditions in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, as well as north of Australia. On one of these expeditions he found a new blue wren, <span style="font-style:italic">Malurus callainus</span>.</abstract>
<p>Born London, 15 June 1835. Died Sydney, 16 November 1880. Arrived Australia 1842. Managed his father's station, Tatiara, in the south-east of South Australia during the 1850s. After his father's death in 1860 he began a series of collecting expeditions, including along the Murray River (1863, 1865); north of Lake Eyre 1863; west of Spencer Gulf 1865; Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria 1867-68; North Queensland 1871, 1878-79; Torres Straits islands 1878-79; Aru Islands, Arafura Sea 1880.</p>
