He also designed many Roman Catholic Churches and was supervising architect for St Paul's Cathedral. In 1858 he won a competition for the design of the London Bank's Melbourne office and later went on to design at least fifty other banks, mostly in Victoria, but also in Tasmania, Western Australia and New Zealand.
