<biogHist>
The Polymer Division of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute was one of the first to be formed. It arose out of the Australian Polymer Symposium which was held in Mildura, Victoria in 1964. The Victorian Polymer Group became the interim organising committee until the Division was officially incorporated into the RACI in 1966. The core aim of the Polymer Division is to advance the theory and practice of Polymer Science. Throughout its history, the division has sponsored visits by leading overseas polymer scientists, conducted symposia and workshops around Australia and in 1973 established the Australian Polymer Medal to be awarded annually to a scientist who has made an outstanding contribution to polymer science in Australia.
<p>From the website, 16 March 2026:</p>
<p>'The origins of the Polymer Division date from the early 1960s, and arose from the activities of a number of members of the Victorian branch of the RACI. The Polymer Division is the largest organisation representing polymer scientists, engineers and technologists in Australasia. It was the first of the "modern" Divisions of the RACI.'</p>
