<biogHist>
The Cereal Chemistry Division was one of the original divisions established by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute in 1965. However, its history dates back to c.1950 when it operated as the first national group of the Australian Chemical Institute. Since the first Divisional meeting in 1951, the mission of the Division has been to advance the theory and practice of cereal chemistry in Australasia through national symposia, local meetings and educational activities. The Division also undertakes to promote, advance and safeguard the scientific and professional interest of members.

The Division presented three awards: the Founders Award (annual) for service to the Australasian Cereal Industry; the Service Award (Annual) for exceptional and sustained service to the Cereal Chemistry Division; and the F. B. Guthrie Medal (triennial) in recognition of recognise significant service to cereal chemistry in Australia or New Zealand. In 2012 members of the Division questioned the relevance of the Division, on the basis that cereal chemistry was no longer a core discipline in cereal science in Australia. It was decided that the Division be discontinued, and stewardship of the awards, Standard Methods and Check Samples be transferred to a sector-based organisation.
