The Australasian (originally Australian) College of Tropical Medicine was established in 1991 and incorporated in Queensland in 1994. It is committed to the development of tropical medicine and the management of the global burden of tropical disease and injury through networking, research and development. Other aims of the College include: encouragement of continuing education; promotion of professional standards; and maintenance of a historical collection of items relevant to the development of tropical medicine in Australia and New Zealand. Membership includes doctors, scientists, academics, military personnel and veterinary scientists with an interest in tropical medicine. A major activity of the College is its Annual Scientific Meeting and Convocation. Since 2016 the College has published the journal <span style="font-style:italic">Tropical medicine and infectious disease</span> (ISSN 2414-6366).
