<abstract>The <span style="font-style:italic">Melbourne University Engineering Students' Club</span> was founded in 1889 as the Engineering Students' Society. Its first meeting was held on 22 Aug 1889, with a paper presented by Wilfred Noyce Kernot, and the meeting chaired by Prof William Charles Kernot. It was closely related with the <span style="font-style:italic">Melbourne University Engineering Society</span>, and traditionally provided it with an Assistant Honorary Secretary. It produced a student club newsletter "Quo Vadis". From 1938 to 1978 it published an annual journal, "Cranks and Nuts".</abstract>
