The Endocrine Society of Australia (ESA), founded in 1958, is a non-profit organisation of medical specialists, researchers and trainees, who work towards the prevention of, and optimal treatment for, endocrine and related medical conditions. Early proponents of the Society included Keith Harrison, Bryan Hudson, Pincus Taft, Basil Hetzel and Ewan Downie. Since its inception. the Society has held annual meetings, the <span style="font-style:italic">Proceedings</span> of which were first published in 1970. At these meetings invited speakers present the Keith Harrison Memorial Lecture (inaugurated 1964) and the Pincus Taft Memorial Lecture (1994). Annual seminar meetings have been held since 1969. International conferences hosted by the ESA were the 2nd Asia and Oceania Congress of Endocrinology in 1963 and the 2000 International Congress of Endocrinology (ICE). A specialist society of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the ESA has over 1,000 members.
<p>Awards presented by the Society include:<br />
Honorary Life Membership, which recognises Society members who have an outstanding contribution to research or clinical practice in the field of endocrinology on Australia;<br />
ESA Senior Plenary Award, which recognises an outstanding research career in the field of endocrinology on Australia;<br />
ESA Outstanding Clinical Practitioner Award, which recognises members acknowledged as outstanding clinicians, teachers and clinical mentors to trainees.</p>
