<biogHist>
Established in 1946, Appita is a technical association that serves the pulp and paper industries of Australia and New Zealand. In 2002 Appita had approximately 1550 members. When it was formed, its name "Australian Pulp And Paper Industry Technical Association" was abbreviated to APPITA. In 1962, with a broadening membership from New Zealand, it was decided to change the name to the 'Australian and New Zealand Pulp and Paper Technical Association', or Appita for convenience, and Appita is now the legal name of the association.

Since 1947 it has published <span style="font-style:italic">"Appita - Journal of Australian Pulp And Paper Industry Technical Association"</span> or more recently <span style="font-style:italic">"Appita Journal"</span>usually bimonthly.
