After some restructuring of the university, it is now part of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies. The Centre is dedicated to inspiring a fascination in the Universe through research and education and is one of the newest and most rapidly growing research centres in Australia. It operates a significant supercomputing facility and a virtual reality theatre and concentrates on problems in astrophysics that benefit from these unique resources. The Centre employs a radical approach of broadening its funding base through a combination of traditional research greats, commercial work, online reaching and University support which has led to spectacular growth since its formation in 1998.
