<biogHist>
The Sydney County Council was established in August 1935 under the Gas and Electricity Act 1935, to generate and distribute electricity to the municipalities within the County Council's area. It took over the Electricity Department of the Sydney City Council, including its power stations, main transmission lines and distribution networks, that had previously serviced the area.

From 1 January 1952, its two power stations and bulk transmission lines were transferred to the control of the Electricity Commission of New South Wales and, from then on, the Sydney County Council purchased electricity in bulk and continued to distribute electricity to its consumers.

On 1 January 1980, the Council and its electricity distribution area was expanded to include the former County Councils of Brisbane Waters, St. George and McKellar.

On 2 January 1991, Sydney County Council was dissolved when Sydney Electricity, established under the Sydney Electricity Act 1990, commenced operations.
