<biogHist>
The South Australian School of Mines and Industries was a well respected early mining and metallurgy education institute.
<p>By 1902 the School was offering courses in Applied Sciences and Engineering including Mining and Metallurgy, and graduate diplomas were awarded an Associate of the South Australian School of Mines and Industries (ASASM).</p>
<p>In 1902, the University of Adelaide agreed with the School that they would jointly teach engineering courses - theoretical subjects would be studied at the University, and applied subjects at the School of Mines. This arrangement led to the award of the qualification Bachelor of Engineering, Fellow of the South Australian School of Mines and Industries (BE FSASM) and this arrangement continued until the after the Second World War.</p>
