In 2000 the South Australian Branch was the host. Association Society or Membership Organisation Agriculture The Australian Society of Animal Production was founded in 1951 and is essentially a federated association of 11 branches located around Australia. The Society is an incorporated body and its activities are carried out in accordance with a formal constitution. It was formed to promote the development of animal production in Australia. From the Society's Web site (quoted 20 November 2000): "Every two years one of the branches provides a Federal Council and hosts a week-long national conference. A Newsletter from the Federal Council is posted to all members 3 or 4 times a year. The Society is a unique organisation. It provides a formal structure in which producers and professional agriculturalists can meet and learn from each other. It creates opportunities for everyone involved in animal production to present their ideas. It exists because of the interest and support of people throughout Australia. The 1,500 members come from numerous fields in all States and Territories. Membership is open to everyone who is or has been engaged in or is interested in animal production - farmers, graziers, research workers, extension and technical support personnel, educators and students. The Biennial Conference provides an opportunity for members to come together and exchange information and ideas. The Conference Proceedings, which typically contain 150 or so papers running to more than 500 pages, are sent free to all current members. This means that all members, regardless of their location or interests, are regularly presented with the most recent information available. The Branches meet at regular intervals to discuss topics of local or national interest and to provide a forum for members to raise matters of importance in animal production."
